General Objectives  

  1. Creation of a common consideration of the notion and practice of “sustainable building” in the Mediterranean region
  2. Enhancement of transferability of knowledge and innovation  on SB
  3. Research of the methodological bases, capacities and structures needed to achieve building sustainability in each participating country
  4. Ensure responsiveness of methodological bases to regional problems and needs and to the capacity of local actors to create their own systems
  5. Environmental sensitization
  6. Community involvement in sustainable design  

Expected Results  

  • Common definition of SB in the Mediterranean (the SB-MED approach)
  • Drawing of methodological bases needed to implement SB techniques and related policy tools and mechanisms
  • Adaptation to specific local needs and contribution to the creation of local SB systems
  • Development and Implementation of sustainable and ecological design in school buildings
  • Replication value to be produced regarding a large amount of school building stock in all countries
  • Establishment of an important educational and cultural exchange between Northern and Mediterranean cities, on urban sustainability and environmental quality issues involving different groups
  • Creation of a Network entitled “SB-MED Network”  between relevant  Mediterranean partners for further communication and promotion of the idea of  “sustainable building”
